Abstract:In China, vanadium-titanium slag has a large number of emissions and high storage capacity. Therefore, there is an urgent demand for massive resource utilization of vanadium-titanium slag. In this study, the vanadium-titanium slag was mechanically activated, and the effect of the fineness (300~500 m2/kg) and dosage (30%~50%) on the properties of Portland cement was analyzed. Microscopic analysis was performed to explore the influencing mechanism of vanadium-titanium slag on the mechanical properties of cement. The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for the design and preparation of vanadium-titanium slag cement. The results exhibit that vanadium-titanium slag has no adverse impacts on the flowability, water demand, and stability of Portland cement. However, the setting time of cement will be extended with the dosage increasing. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of cement will be decrease with the increase of vanadium-titanium slag dosage, while the mechanical properties can be improved by controlling vanadium-titanium slag fineness. The vanadium-titanium slag cement presents relatively high mechanical properties at the dosage of 30%~50% and the specific surface area of 450~500 m2/kg of vanadium-titanium slag, the 28 d compressive strength of vanadium-titanium slag cement can reach 44.2~46.3 MPa. Increasing the fineness of vanadium-titanium slag can promote the pozzolanic activity of vanadium-titanium slag and enhance the heterogeneous nucleation of hydration products, which increases the hydration degree of cement and decreases the capillary pore volume of matrix, thus the mechanical properties of cement are enhanced.
