Influence of structure of boron-barium composite calcium sulfoaluminate minerals on radiation shielding performance
YANG Zicheng, et al
Currently, radiation-shielding cement used in nuclear power plants primarily includes boron-containing cement, barium cement, and strontium cement. Conventional boron-containing cement is typically produced by incorporating boron oxides or minerals followed by grinding, but it often suffers from high density, susceptibility to segregation and cracking, and unstable performance. Barium and strontium cements require sintering temperatures exceeding 1 550 ℃, resulting in high energy consumption, and they only shield γ-ray and X-rays without effectively moderating or absorbing neutrons, thus offering limited protection. This study introduces both boron, which provides neutron shielding, and barium, which shields γ/X-rays, into calcium sulfoaluminate minerals. The influence of boron and barium on the mineral structure of calcium sulfoaluminate was investigated, along with the mechanical and radiation shielding properties. The results show that with the addition of 0.75 B2O3 and 0.8 BaO, a boron-barium composite calcium sulfoaluminate sample sintered at 1 350℃ achieved a 7-day compressive strength of 59.56 MPa and a flexural strength of 9.57 MPa in mortar specimens. The shielding capabilities against γ-rays and neutrons were improved by 40.00% and 33.33%, respectively, compared to pure calcium sulfoaluminate.

Research on effect of polycarboxylate superplasticizer on early strength of crystal nucleation accelerator
WANG Qingwen, et al
Polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE) is the most widely used admixture in concrete. To enable the engineering application of crystal nucleation accelerators in concrete, it is essential to investigate their compounding effects with PCE. Based on this, five commercially available PCEs were compounded with a crystal nucleation accelerator to analyze their effects on concrete performance and clarify the influencing mechanisms. The results indicate that the addition of the crystal nucleation accelerator improved concrete slump, significantly shortened the setting time, and enhanced the early-age compressive strength. Notably, the more prolonged the setting time induced by the PCE, the more pronounced the enhancement effect of the crystal nucleation accelerator on early compressive strength—particularly within 12 hours (0.5 d). However, as the curing age extended, the enhancement effect of the crystal nucleation accelerator on compressive strength gradually weakened for all PCE-compounded systems, though it remained consistent across different PCE types. Critically, no strength regression was observed in any mixture

Research on performance of silicon fume for development of sustainable cement-based composite materials
[J]. Journal of Cement, 2026,0(3): 75-')" href="#">
SONG Xiaogang
In order to clarify the hydration mechanism and performance improvement effect of silica fume (SF)-substituted cement-based composites, this study took ordinary Portland cement (PO) as the matrix and explored the composite effect of silica fume and cement. The results show that within all hydration ages, silica fume substitution significantly enhances the compressive strength of mortar. It promotes the early hydration of C3S and C2S through micro-filling and nucleation effects, and undergoes pozzolanic reaction with calcium hydroxide (CH) generated by cement hydration to form calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel, leading to a dense microstructure and reduced pores.

Research on fiber reinforcement performance of UHPC
LI Xiaodong, et al.
In order to address the issue of low toughness in Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), the paper investigates the effects of different fibers, shrinkage reducers and expansive agents on the performance of UHPC. The research results show that the fibers can improve the compressive and flexural strengths of UHPC to a certain extent. Among them, steel fibers have a better effect on enhancing the performance of UHPC than polypropylene fibers. Furthermore, the early autogenous shrinkage of UHPC with 2% steel fiber content is the smallest, with a 72-hour shrinkage rate of 1 165 με, a fluidity of 205 mm, a 28-day compressive strength of 173.4 MPa and a 28-day flexural strength of 35.4 MPa. The research results show that the introduction of fibers has a certain effect on improving the toughness of UHPC. This study has certain reference and application value for enhancing the toughness of UHPC.
