1 Influence of clinker particle size distribution and mineral composition on cracking resistance of Portland cement

 In order to explore the influence of clinker particle size distribution and mineral composition on the cracking resistance of Portland cement, the effects of clinker particle size distribution and mineral composition on the working performance, hydration performance, mechanical property, drying shrinkage and cracking resistance performance of cement-based materials were explored systematically. The results showed that with the increase of fine powder content of cement clinker, the water requirement of normal consistency of cement increased, the setting time shortened, water loss ratio was decreased, dry shrinkage and the crack risk of cement increased. With the decrease of C3S content and the increase of C2S content in the cement clinker, the water requirement of normal consistency of cement had no significant changes, the setting time was lengthened, the early hydration active and strength were reduced, later strength could improve steadily, the water loss ratio was increased and dry shrinkage was decreased. Finally, it is suggested that when manufacturing crack resistance Portland cement, the D10 of clinker was best to be controlled 5~7 μm, the D90 was suitable to 45 μm approximately, C3S and C2S content of clinker were satisfactory to be controlled 40%~60% and 10%~30%, respectively.

8 Mineral analysis of inner and outer layers of large particle cement clinker

Due to the differences of coal ash subsidence and internal and external firing temperatures of clinker particle in rotary kilns, the mineral phase composition of the outer, middle and inner layer of the large particle clinker is different, resulting in the different strengths of the cement clinker. By means of chemical analysis, XRD quantitative analysis and SEM morphology analysis, the differences of chemical composition, mineral composition and crystal structure of the outer, middle and inner layers of the same large particle cement clinker with diameter of about 40 mm were studied. The results showed that SiO2 content and C3S content decreased gradually from outer layer to inner layer.  Meanwhile, the content of C2S that did not react with f-CaO increased, while the overall content of silicate minerals decreased. From the outer layer to the inner layer, the C3S-M1 type gradually transformed into the C3S-M3 type and the C3S-T type.

 According to the experimental principle of GB 31893—2015 “Limit and determination of the water-soluble chromium (Ⅵ) content for cement”, the rapid detection method for water-soluble chromium (Ⅵ) in cement was studied by optimizing the experimental steps. The cement sample was dispersed in a sealable plastic bottle with the water-cement ratio of 2:1, and the bottle was held upside down and shaken for 15 times. After static settlement for about 3 min, the supernatant was separated out. The filtrate was extracted by a water microporous filter with a diameter of 25 mm and a filter membrane aperture of 0.45 μm. Finally, the filtrate was collected in a syringe, then filtrate was measured with a portable visible spectrophotometer after color reaction. The test results proved that this method could expand the application range of the standard and could be used as a reference method for rapid screening and detection.
