Abstract: In order to clarify the hydration mechanism and performance improvement effect of silica fume (SF)-substituted cement-based composites, this study took ordinary Portland cement (PO) as the matrix and explored the composite effect of silica fume and cement. The results show that within all hydration ages, silica fume substitution significantly enhances the compressive strength of mortar. It promotes the early hydration of C3S and C2S through micro-filling and nucleation effects, and undergoes pozzolanic reaction with calcium hydroxide (CH) generated by cement hydration to form calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel, leading to a dense microstructure and reduced pores.
