Abstract Circulating Fluidized Bed Fly Ash (CFBFA) is characterized by huge stockpiles and low utilization rate. To enhance its resource utilization efficiency, this study adopts an ultra-fining method to improve its performance as an admixture. The effects of ultrafine CFBFA on the properties of cement-based materials are analyzed through tests on fluidity, setting time, rheological properties, hydration heat, compressive strength, and chemically bound water. The experimental results indicate that when the content of ultrafine CFBFA is 20%, the fluidity of cement-based materials is improved, and the compressive strength is increased by 15.84%, demonstrating a significant effect. This is because ultrafine CFBFA exhibits multiple effects in cement-based materials. On one hand, it has pozzolanic activity, which is conducive to enhancing the degree of hydration in the later stages. On the other hand, it has a nucleation effect, and despite the reduced cement dosage, its pore-filling capability improves compactness. Therefore, ultra-fining represents an effective pathway for the application of CFBFA
