Abstract In the process of mixing and molding cement concrete, bubbles are generated internally, which leads to a decrease in its compactness, compressive strength, impermeability, and erosion resistance. The effects of various proportions and types of polyether-modified silicone defoamers were investigated through experiments. It was observed that the defoamers can extend the initial and final setting time of cement concrete. Different types and dosages of defoamers exert a positive influence on the 28 d compressive strength, impermeability and erosion resistance of cement concrete. Specifically, the 28d compressive strength reaches the peak when the dosage is 0.10%. Both impermeability and erosion resistance reach their optimal levels at a dosage of 0.15%. Among the three types of defoamers, the medium-to-high polyether type demonstrates superior overall performance
