Abstract This study prepared geopolymers using construction waste powder, sludge incineration ash, calcium carbide residue, silica fume, ground granulated blast slag as precursor, and 5% sodium equivalent solutions of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate were formulated as an alkaline activator with a modulus 1.5. The compressive strength and microstructure of geopolymers were analyzed through testing methods such as compressive strength, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopyenergy-energy dispersive spectrometer analysis (SEM-EDS). The results show that calcium carbide residue and silica fume have an enhancing effect on the strength of geopolymers. When both are added at a dosage of 5%, the compressive strength of geopolymer paste can reach up to 65.83 MPa and 93.98 MPa at 3 days and 28 days, respectively. The microstructure analysis shows that the formation of calcium silicate aluminate hydrate (C-A-S-H) and sodium silicate aluminate hydrate (N-A-S-H) gels is the main reason for the formation and development of the compressive strength of solid waste based geopolymers.
