Abstract:In order to improve the resource utilization rate of iron tailings, the feasibility of making autoclaved aerated
concrete (AAC) by using fine iron tailings as raw material instead of steel slag was studied. In this paper, the effects of fine
iron tailings on pH value, fluidity, foaming property, compressive strength and dry density of AAC under different mix ratios
were studied. The mineral composition, microscopic morphology and pore structure were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD),
fourier-transform infrared spectrum analysis (FTIR), thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), scanning
electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) analysis and pore structure characterization analysis. The
results showed that the addition of fine iron tailings decreased the pH of slurry, increased the fluidity of slurry, inhibited the
foaming process, decreased the diameter of pores and enhanced the compressive strength of AAC. The addition of fine iron
tailings can enhance the AAC performance, which is ascribed to the synergistic influence of tobermorite and anhydrite.
